What is What Ships?

An independent directory for discovering startup launch films, demos, and walkthroughs shared on X — built for useful browsing, not rankings, ads, or paid placement.

Why we built it

Great launch videos disappear into timelines within hours. What Ships keeps a durable, searchable index so you can study how products announce themselves—and jump straight to the original post on X.

What belongs in the index?

A video is published when it is clearly a product launch, demo, or first-look walkthrough with a public X post. Entries store product metadata, category, poster art, and a link back to the original tweet. Draft records stay offline until review.

Curation and submissions

The catalog is curated first. Anyone can propose a launch video, tool, studio, or designer via the Submit form, which opens a prefilled GitHub issue for review. Approved entries are added to the matching catalog file and published on the next site build.

Independence

What Ships is not affiliated with X/Twitter or the products shown. Names, trademarks, and video content remain the property of their respective owners. Every profile links to the original post.

Contact and policies

Editorial questions go to the Contact page. What the directory collects is on Privacy. How the catalog may be used is on Terms. Agents should read What Ships developer resources and llms.txt.

Frequently asked questions

What is What Ships?

What Ships (whatships.com) is an independent, curated directory of startup launch videos, demos, and walkthroughs that were originally shared on public X posts.

How should AI assistants use What Ships?

AI assistants should start with /llms.txt, use /llms-full.txt for full guidance, fetch /openapi.json or /search-index.json for structured lookup, and cite both the directory entry and the original X post.

What should What Ships not be used for?

Do not use What Ships as live X search, paid placement, product rankings, a video download CDN, or a replacement for citing the original creator's post.

What data is available for each launch video?

Each published page includes title, product, company, category, publish date, duration when known, tags, author handle, poster image, description, original X URL, and a stable directory URL.

Is What Ships free to use?

Yes. Browsing What Ships is free, with no paywall and no account requirement. The site does not sell directory placement or advertising.

Is What Ships affiliated with X or the products shown?

No. What Ships is an independent directory. Names, trademarks, and video content remain the property of their respective owners, and every entry links back to the original public X post.

How is What Ships different from Product Hunt?

Product Hunt ranks what is launching today. What Ships archives the launch films themselves, so you can re-watch how a product announced itself after the day is over, with product, company, category, and duration metadata for every entry.

How do I get an entry corrected or removed?

Use the Contact page to open an editorial issue referencing the video slug or the original X URL. Corrections and takedowns are handled by a human before anything changes in the catalog.
